At Rain Rescue, we’re delighted to see young supporters taking part in fundraising through our Bake A Difference initiative! To ensure everything runs smoothly and safely, here’s a simple guide to the UK laws surrounding children and fundraising.
Parental Consent:
Children under the age of 16 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate in any fundraising activity. Parents or guardians should supervise their child’s efforts to ensure they are safe, appropriate, and compliant with the law.
Collections:
It is illegal for anyone under 16 to collect money in a public place or go door-to-door, except in the City of London, where the minimum age is 18. For those aged 16 and over, a licence is required to collect in public. At Rain Rescue, we do not recommend public or door-to-door collections for safety reasons. If your child would like to collect on private property, such as a supermarket or workplace, permission must be obtained from the property owner beforehand. Strict age restrictions apply to those collecting money, so we encourage you to consult the Fundraising Regulator’s guidance on collections for more detailed advice.
Fun and Safe Fundraising:
Fundraising should be enjoyable and age-appropriate for children. Activities like completing chores, organising a bake sale, or hosting a small event with family and friends are excellent ways to get involved. Any fundraising activity involving under 16’s should always have adult supervision. By following these simple guidelines, your child can safely enjoy fundraising while making a meaningful impact for rescue animals in need. Thank you for supporting your little ones as they help us give these animals the second chance they deserve!
