At Rain Rescue, we know life can change in the blink of an eye. More and more pet owners across the UK are faced with the heartbreaking decision to rehome their dogs due to personal circumstances, housing issues, financial struggles, or health challenges. Unfortunately, rescue centres are overflowing, and there just isn’t enough space to take in every dog that needs help.
We understand how difficult it is to say goodbye to a beloved pet, and we believe no dog should have to wait in limbo for help to come.
That’s why we offer our Home to Home scheme – a compassionate and practical alternative to traditional rehoming. Instead of your dog staying in a kennel, they can remain with you in the comfort of their familiar surroundings while we work to find them the perfect new home.
Why Choose Home to Home?
🐾 No waiting list delays
At our rehoming centre, we can sometimes face long waiting lists, meaning dogs may have to wait weeks or even months for their new forever home. With Home to Home, your pet can stay in their current home while waiting to be adopted through the rescue centre – no need to wait for kennel space.
🐾 Less stress for your dog
Moving from a family home to a rescue centre can be a stressful experience, especially for dogs who have known love and routine. Staying in a familiar environment helps reduce anxiety and keeps them comfortable while we work behind the scenes to secure their next chapter.
🐾 Fully supported rehoming process
Just like any dog at our centre, your pet will be carefully assessed, and we’ll create a detailed rehoming profile to help find the perfect match. We’ll promote them across our website and channels to reach the right adopters. We vet all potential adopters and do home checks to ensure your dog goes to a safe and suitable home. When a potential adopter is found, we’ll arrange a supported introduction at our centre and any future required meets to make sure it’s a positive experience for everyone involved.
🐾 Legal responsibility
While your dog is waiting for their new forever home, they legally remain your dog until the point of adoption, at which point they will be signed over to Rain Rescue. During this time, your dog remains your responsibility, ensuring you have full control over their care while we work to find them the best match.
How It Works
Get in touch – Contact our team to let us know your situation and that you’re interested in the Home to Home scheme.
Assessment – We’ll chat with you about your dog’s personality, behaviour, medical history, and needs. This helps us build a complete picture for their rehoming profile. You’ll also need to bring your dog to Rain Rescue for an in-person assessment so we can safely and fairly evaluate them for rehoming.
Promotion – Your dog will be added to our rehoming listings and shared with our network of potential adopters.
Matchmaking – Once we find the right match, Rain Rescue’s experienced rehoming team will arrange and supervise a calm, controlled introduction between your dog and the potential adopters at our centre. You won’t need to be involved in this stage, apart from bringing your dog to the centre for the meet – we’ll handle everything else. We vet check all potential adopters and do home checks to ensure your dog is going to a safe and suitable home. We’ll ensure the introduction is a positive experience for everyone, making sure your dog is matched with the perfect forever home.
New beginnings – If the introduction goes well, we’ll guide and support the dog through the transition to its new family, ensuring a smooth and positive experience.
Is Home to Home Right for My Dog?
This scheme is ideal for dogs who:
Are friendly, sociable, and safe to remain in their current home
Have no urgent medical needs that require 24/7 care
Are not aggressive or at risk in their current environment
If your dog is in immediate danger or has been abandoned, our centre-based intake might still be the best option. Please speak to us, and we’ll help you decide what’s best.
Support Every Step of the Way
We know that giving up a pet is never easy, but you’re not alone – we’re here to help, not to judge. Home to Home is designed to ease the burden, reduce stress, and make sure your dog is given the best possible chance at a happy future.
By keeping them safe at home while we search for their perfect match, you’re giving them a smoother, more secure path to their new beginning.
