Rain Rescue’s centre here in Wickersley, Rotherham has been a hosting centre for The Pet Blood Bank charity for the past 12 months, and when they visited us in May, our wonderful greyhound JAI was a very willing donor.

When donors book their appointments to come and donate their dogs blood, they are really helping to save a dogs life and here at Rain Rescue, that is part of our ethos.  Helping to save lives.

Hopefully JAI will have found his new home by the next time they come to the centre, but we are hoping his new owners will be able to bring him back for being a regular donor.

For those of you who have followed Rain for a long time, you will remember little Yogi, this little dog that we got out of the put-down pens in a pound, awaiting his fate of being put down on Monday.
Steve brought him home, and we bathed his wounds and sores and helped him to trust people again. Yogi never left and lived with Jacquie and Steve and saw so many dogs come into Rain and into their home too – as he accepted them all, ate whatever biscuits he could steal, and enjoyed life.
He’s seen the passing of Auntie Linda and Bronte, Mabel and Jerry all very close friends who now will have welcomed Yogi into their arms and hopefully sharing their supper with him.
Yogi has lived with Annie and Jack in London where he’s been at some big name film sets, and met some great actors – taking it all in his stride – he’s wagged his tail and sniffed around for biscuits, and then back into his little bed for a snooze and dream about the good life. He’s been out in the van on trips around the country – walks and photo shoots and when he’s had enough, he’s been back packed and watched the world go by.
Yogi had so many coats and beds and cuddles, he has been so massively loved by them and everyone he has met – but after catching this horrid bug at the weekend, over the last few days he went down too quickly and today he decided he had had enough, and passed over the bridge to see his old friends.
Dogs like Yogi are why Rain Rescue does what it does. Helping those who were thrown out and unloved and at the brink of death – bringing them back into the warmth and into love and we are so proud to have been able to do that for so many hundreds of little lives over the years.
Sweet Dreams little man – we will all so miss you but we know you will never leave us. You are Rain Rescue and your memory will always carry on. xx❤

Here are two images of Yogi when he first arrived in our care. He was in such a bad way. We are so grateful that we could turn his life around, and give him a second chance. Thank you for supporting Rain so that we could save his life.
Our very own Gizmo’s rescue story has been featured in The Star newspaper! 🤩🐶❤ A spirited old Jack Russell, he is now settling into his forever home with our very own volunteer Pat Davey and is loving life again.
We are proud to feature in the Rotherham Advertiser, celebrating the success of our “Twelve Days of Christmas” appeal video launched in December.
In Case you missed it –
Thank you to every kind person that supported the appeal to provide tasty dinners for all of the cats and dogs in our care! We cannot continue our vital work without you. ❤
We were very excited to be featured as a news story on Look North on 6th January 2021. Our cattery manager Robyn discussed the increased pressure and challenges we have faced since Covid began. Since the pandemic began, stray cats have been breeding uncontrollably on the streets & spreading feline diseases and we’ve been working at full capacity, doing all that we can to help every stray cat that needs us.

As we say goodbye to 2021, I think, “Thank goodness and good riddance.” It’s been a year of hardship and pain, with lots of stress and a lot of pain. We see so much sadness, some days you wonder why you do it, but then, you have a chat with a new adopter, a volunteer, or one of the team, and realise you really make a difference every day for pets and people. Not everyone gets to see these waggy tails and cute purrs that we do as part of our day whilst we find great homes for those that have not had such a great time too.
Often, rescue can feel like the loneliest job on earth. Then, some kind person applies for the cat that’s been waiting for weeks, and it’s perfect for them. We’ve made that person happy, the cat with a big grin and for us, it’s a great day. The dog that you think nobody will ever come for has an application, and you smile – this one could be it. We have such a wonderful team of staff and volunteers that really do make each day a great day – I personally couldn’t wish for a better team to be working with every day, quietly helping vulnerable pets that have nobody else.
You – our incredible supports – have been with us throughout all this time. Recently, you’ve helped by buying cats and dog dinners throughout the festive season and it means we can keep going. That’s how we have helped the 311 cats and 66 dogs that we have done during 2021. YOU are part of their journey.
So, GOODBYE 2021 – and HELLO 2022, as we start our “KEEP THEM WARM THIS WINTER” appeal, we know you are with us along the way. Keep with us, keep helping – It’s going to be a great year.
– Jacquie Nielson, Founder & CEO

The colder weather has started to set in and we are making plans to ensure we are ready for it. Keeping the Cattery and Kennels warm in the winter months is one of our biggest concerns. Our average heating bill is over £8200 p.a. and this year we anticipate it will be even higher following the expected hike in energy prices.
We need to ensure that none of our animals have to go without heat this winter and to do this we ask for your help. We need to pay our energy bill every month.
We can’t do this without YOUR help.
Will you help our cats and dogs keep warm this winter?

Now, we just need to pay for her bill.  £3.00 from 850 people will cover it – so we can afford to help the next dog that needs us.

When Phoebe first arrived her skin was red raw, eyes and ears so swollen she could hardly hear or see and she was scratching at her skin until it bled 😢
During her stay here she has had:-
🧡 hypoallergenic food
🧡 monthly flea and worming treatments
🧡 numerous vet visits with blood and urine and skin tests
🧡 medicated shampoo for several baths per week
🧡 lots and lots of anti-biotics, medication
🧡 vaccinations, microchip and neutering
🧡 double eye surgery to fix her entropion
Just look at that before and after! We can’t believe the difference 😍😍
And the even better news, Phoebe is going home!! Her new family has been visiting her for several weeks and finally took her home earlier this week 🥰 she even has another dog to keep her entertained! 🐶
We can’t wait to update you with photos once Phoebe is settled with her new family! 🧡🐾

We are blown away, delighted, over the moon and so so proud to have been announced as the winners of the 2020 PetPlan & ADCH Charity Awards – Animal Charity Team of the Year!

It’s a huge honour and whilst these times are probably the most difficult we’ve ever faced as a charity this has given us all a real boost and makes us even more determined to continue to be here for dogs and cats in crisis.

Today has been a hard day – in the last 2 days, we have taken in 4 cats and 2 dogs as well as rehoming 1 cat and 2 kittens & 3 vet trips. We now have 50 dogs and cats being paid for and cared by Rain tonight. So I had to share this with you. Eli is one we could say YES to, and that we could help Eli is the reason why I work in rescue. Through so many ups and downs and horrible days, knowing that we could say YES to helping him, makes it bare-able.Eli has lived with his dad for the last 9 years. Sadly, dad could no longer care for Eli, and if we couldn’t take him, he had nowhere to go but a one way trip to the vets. When we heard it was an 11 year old GSD I was dubious? They are normally on their last legs at 8 or 9 but 11?

Then Eli bounced out of the car. Yes, he’s stressed and missed his dad but when the vet checked him over, he did have lumps but they were just cysts – and other than that – he loves the field, he loves his tea and he loves us. Tonight Eli is safe, he’s warm, he has a thick bed, and he’s fed. Tomorrow he will start to look for his new home whilst he gets flea’d and wormed and groomed.Tomorrow is a new day for Eli and for me – because tomorrow, I know I can face another day.Thank you all for supporting our wonderful charity as we say “YES” to Eli. Come on in!!! Your £2.00 helps us keep on saying “YES”.

As we have gone through a hard 6 months, we look back at the numbers.

Rain Rescue have taken into their 140 cats and 40 dogs – all that were in need of a lifeline to prevent them being homeless, or that were already homeless.

Charlie celebrates tonight with a game of football – being safe in our care tonight, waiting for that fun home to come along and find her.

Just because a dog or cat has ended up in a rescue centre, doesn’t mean they have problems, nor does it mean they have failed. It just means that it wasn’t right for them first time around. Rain Rescue is here – to help them find their new great home – 2nd time around.

We are always looking for great homes – and we have done this year – with 154 adoptions. (Some will have been reclaimed, some transferred, some died and some still in care looking for new homes).

The future of helping our canine friends in animal welfare lies in our conversations with them. How we listen to what they are saying. How we explain to them what we would really like them to do.

Thank you to Gemma from Positive Paws Training for putting together a great learning session today for our kennel team here at Rain Rescue. As we strive to understand the language of dog

Here’s to many more sessions to come.

Its been a fabulous day with the Rain Fundraising team back out for the first time to Conisborough Gala. Frankie Rain was out and meeting people and chatting away – and people were supporting and donating.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported Frankie and the team at our 1st Fundraising Event post-COVID. Yay!!! we are back out and running.

Frankie is next booked to be fundraising at Morrisons Catcliffe on 28TH and 30th AUGUST – please pop by and say HELLO!!

Now – where’s the next event Frankie can go to?
